Overview

Agent Skills are reusable capabilities that enhance what AI coding assistants can do when working with Dodo Payments. They provide procedural knowledge and best practices that help agents accomplish specific tasks more effectively—from integrating checkout flows to setting up usage-based billing.

Think of skills as plugins for your AI assistant. They teach your agent how to implement Dodo Payments features correctly, following recommended patterns and best practices.

Skills work with any AI agent that supports the skills protocol, including:

Agent Plugin (recommended)

The Dodo Agent Plugin installs all eighteen skills plus both MCP servers in one step for Claude Code, Codex CLI, Cursor, VS Code / GitHub Copilot, Gemini CLI, Grok Build, Meta Muse Code, Google Antigravity, JetBrains Junie, Kiro, and OpenCode. Skills load automatically when your agent detects a relevant task.

OpenCode

OpenCode loads skills from directories you point it at. It does not scan installed packages, so an explicit skills.paths entry is required.

Using the Agent Plugin package:

Relative paths resolve against the project directory, so the package must be present in that project’s node_modules. An absolute path works too, and avoids the local-install requirement.

A skills path that does not exist is ignored silently — no error, no warning. Confirm the skills actually loaded:

opencode run "List every skill available to you by name."

You should see all eighteen.

Using Skills

Once installed, your AI assistant loads the relevant skill automatically when you ask it to implement a Dodo Payments feature. You don’t need to name the skill; describe the task instead.

How Skills Work

Skills provide your AI assistant with:

4. Context Awareness — Understanding of how different Dodo Payments features work together

Longer skills keep framework-, platform-, and example-specific detail in a references/ folder next to the skill, and your agent opens those files only when the task needs them.

When you ask your AI assistant to implement a feature, it uses the relevant skill to understand the correct implementation approach, generate accurate working code, follow Dodo Payments conventions, and handle edge cases and errors properly.

Skills complement the MCP Server. Use MCP for API operations and Skills for enhanced AI assistant capabilities.
